I think we are all lucky to have access to vaccines, especially the right to chose. We are also lucky our children aren't dying from preventable childhood diseases. We all have a right to chose.....here in Australia we are financially encouraged to vaccinate and while it is not compulsory, you must notify educational authorities......to protect the unvaccinated child. Anyone who is unvaccinated and comes into contact with these diseases will be excluded from school for a period of time to protect their health. We are also seeing much bigger outbreaks of whooping cough.....I hope that their are no babies that catch this because of unvaccinated toddlers and children and adults(who generally are less sick than infants).

I'm glad you have the choice, but I hope all those children and parents in contact with my children choose to vaccinate......

I understand your point here, and your frustration of not being able to get the immunizations you wanted for your child. However, I think you're missing the broader public health perspective: the only reason it is even an option for you to choose not to immunize your sons (and not put them at serious risk) is because EVERYONE ELSE does immunize. If everyone stopped or delayed immunization until an outbreak occurred, like you've chosen to do, then these childhood illnesses would come back with a vengeance. Can you see that argument? You are, and I don't mean this as harshly as it sounds, because I don't think you're doing it maliciously, essentially a parasite on the health of all other children. Your child can forgo the very minimal risks of immunization ONLY because other children do not do so. A moral dilemma, to be sure, and something to think about.
In response to your question:
"Why are we possibly compromising our children’s health and giving them immunizations to protect adults, who should be capable of being immunized later in life for rubella? What are the chances an infected female child with rubella would come in contact with a pregnant woman and infect her, (assuming they weren’t family members?) It seems like this is overkill for situations that have low probabilities of happening in the first place. When was the last time you heard of a pregnant woman’s baby being harmed from rubella by an un-vaccinated girl?", I'd suggest reading this short page on the CDC website that sums up quite well that broad immunizations are the only reason why you don't hear about pregnant women getting rubella. http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vac-gen/why.htm
Hope that is some food for thought for you. Feel free to comment at my blog if you want to make a counterargument. Adding you to my blogroll -think you've got some great posts.

There is a stronger causal link between cable tv and autism than between vaccines and autism.
