I had to fight and change doctors twice (the second time being at 37 weeks). The original OB wanted me to have a section on July 12th and told me my son and I would DIE if I didn't. I had a successful VBAC on AUGUST 2nd (natural labor), my son was 8lbs 13oz and 20.". WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE DOCTORS?

my cousin died whilst have a c-section. I was just trying to read up about it, it was her second c-section. This article is informative but kinda scary. I miss her every day and feel cheated for her that she wont get to raise her beautiful children. She was treated in a private hospital, you'd think that she would have been in the best hands. Rest in peace my beautiful Eliza. I will always love you xxx

"If Ireland can have the lowest maternal death rate in the world, despite not having all the technological advances that the United States has"

Ever been to Ireland? we have actually moved out of the dark ages. But that aside, having recently become pregnant and started pre-natal care in the US and speaking with my friends in my native land there are HUGE differences in the approach to maternity care not just the available technology. For example internal exams are reserved to late pregnancy not on every visit and within 10 minutes of entering the Obs office. Plus in Ireland you retain your obs/gynae who is then required to be with you at the birth - not a case of who ever is on call in the hospital. The c-section rate is extremely low. It appears to me that maternity care is a business in the US. This is also reflected in the backward maternity leave benefits - or lack thereof in the US.

WOW i just stumbled across your blog rather randomly today and read this I'm SO glad to see that I'm NOT crazy and that C-Sections are DUMB and that induction is a BIG cause/lead to c-sections. UGH I'm rather passionate about it to and i have had to c-sections one was terrible the other not so bad but I did end up having a staph infection in my incision 3 weeks later. That is after wanting to SO badly have a VBAC BUT my doctor told me that while it was my decision that he doesn't really like to do them. Quit tragic... but if I do EVER have another baby I think I will find another doctor who does VBAC's and find out what my chances are of trying again.
