Global Giving- Thank You

May 11, 2008

About a month ago, I blogged about the Global Giving project BlogHer was running through Mother’s Day to help save impoverished women and children’s lives. I announced that I would donate 50% of my sales from my on-line store, Little Pumpkin, Sweet Pea Designs from that post to today, Mother’s Day to the project.

While the sales weren’t as high as I would have liked- :-), I was able to donate double what I initally thought I could.  Thank you, thank you to everyone who supported this idea, proposed by Amy from Crunchy Domestic Goddess, and a BlogHer Contributing Editor.

I was torn on which project to donate to, so I ended up donating to two:  I donated to Help Afgan Women Deliver Healthy Babies Safely, and to the Mother & Child Health Clinic in Rural Nepal.

As I wrote before, I feel so blessed to have been born in a country where I don’t have to worry about having access to basic health care.  As I celebrated Mother’s Day today, it really struck me how many less fortunate women and children never even get a chance to have a basic start in life, and have safe, and accessible health care.

You can still make a donation to these projects, by clicking the links above.  The projects still need your help. The Nepal Mother & Child Clinic is only 7.8% funded, and the Afgan Women Baby Project is only 2.3% funded.  Any amount- as big or as little as you can give will help.

    Carnival_button_2

This is the first time I am participating in this carnival, and I am so excited. I am giving away a delightful onesie from my store, Little Pumpkin Sweet Pea Designs.  The onesie is one of my fastest growing products, and it says, “I Love My Aunties.”  Here is a picture:

No more guessing which aunt baby loves!  This is a wonderful item to give as a gift, to your niece or nephew and since it is white, it is unisex- great for a boy or a girl!

The onesie is white, in size 18 months.  You can see more detail and a sizing chart by clicking on the picture of the onesie or here on the I Love My Aunties product detail at Little Pumpkin Sweet Pea Designs

All you have to do to win is leave ONE comment after the post (duplicate comments will be deleted).  I would love to hear if you win the onesie, if it will be for your own baby or for a friend or relative.  I will pick a winner through random.org on 10 PM Eastern time on Sunday April 27th. Make sure to leave your comment before then for your chance to win.  This giveaway is only open to visitors who have a shipping address in the United States or Canada.  (sorry, but I am unable to do international shipping right now).

    Global Giving

    April 17, 2008

BlogHers Act: Donate Now to Save Women's Lives

BlogHer has announced that it has teamed up Global Giving in an effort to save as many women’s lives as possible between now and Mother’s Day.

We are so very fortunate to live in an area in the world, where we as women, have access to world class health care.  Unfortunately for many women across the globe, just basic health care, let alone specialized maternity care is not available.  Consider some of the statistics hundreds of thousands of women (and their babies) have to face (as posted on BlogHer):

    * Every year, 529,000 women die from pregnancy-related causes.
    * Children who have lost their mothers are up to 10 more times more likely to die prematurely than those who haven’t.
    * Most maternal deaths (61 per cent) take place during labour, delivery or in the immediate post-partum period. Some 3.4 million newborns die within the first week of life.
    UNFPA

From the Mother and Child Clinic in Nepal, to helping mothers safely birth healthy babies in Afghanistan, (where a woman dies of pregnancy-related causes every 27 minutes), the Global Giving projects can help save women’s lives in these desperate areas.

BlogHer has joined forces with Global Giving to make a difference in maternal health, and help save lives. BlogHer wants to find out how many women’s lives can be saved from donations between now and Mother’s Day.

I am joining Amy from Crunchy Domestic Goddess, and will donate 50% of the sales from my on-line store, Little Pumpkin Sweet Pea Designs,  for the rest of April until Mother’s Day to the BlogHers Act/Global Giving project.

If you have browsed my store before, and have had your eye on something, now is a perfect time to go for it.  Obviously you will have a cute shirt, but more importantly you will be helping to make a difference in maternal health for women who greatly need it.

If you have never browsed the store before, click here (or at the above link,) or on the store button in the right hand sidebar.  This isn’t a post to promote my store, only a way to help raise money for this great cause, so I am only providing the link to the store, and not showing any pictures or links to any of the items.

You can also make a donation directly to the Global Giving project, by clicking here (or on the button at the top of the post).  Please consider helping out in anyway you can.  After reading what some of these women have to endure, it puts it all in perspective how very lucky we really are.

    iebg.jpg

The shirt is toddler size 18 months, and it is as pictured, in daffodil yellow.  All you have to do is leave a comment at the end of this post, telling me what you plan to do for Earth Day, or your tip on how “it’s easy being green.”  A post about this contest on your blog is appreciated but not required.

The giveaway will run from Sunday, April 6th to Tuesday, April 15th.  The winner will be selected by random.org at 11p.m. eastern time on the 15th, so make sure to leave a comment before then.  I will contact the winner via e-mail, and you should receive the shirt in time for your baby to wear it on Earth Day.  Even if you don’t have a toddler in this size, surely you can think of a certain little someone who this shirt would look great on for Earth Day.  It is unisex, so it will work for a boy or a girl.

    Welcome to A Mama’s Blog’s New Site!

    March 14, 2008

Welcome to A Mama’s Blog’s new home.  I hope you can linger for a moment and get acquainted with the new site.  If you are looking for any past articles, just scroll down on the right hand side bar, and you can use the “Search” feature, or look through the “Archives.”  You can also browse through past posts by ”Category”.

Perhaps you have noticed a brand new feature, the “Link to Me” button, with the jibberish code underneath it.  You can now place a link on your blog using this code, and my button will appear on your blog.  I did this with my friend Amy’s Crunchy Domestic Goddess blog button in my blogroll.

Finally, my favorite feature so far is the header.  I searched and searched for the image that was perfect, and couldn’t find it.  I really wanted an image that reflected me with my boys, but it didn’t seem like they had an image with two boys and a mama that I liked.   I took a few days off from searching, and when I went back to look through the thousands of images istockphoto has,  a new one popped up.  A mama with her two boys, just about the same age as my boys!

My designer, Heather,  from Girly Blog Designz customized it more for me, so it would look even more like Ryan, Cole, and I, and she added the laptop in for me.   Really, because what blogging mama doesn’t have her laptop with her at all times?  :-)  Then we found a landscape picture background that Heather merged into the picture.  Next Heather added her creative flair, and we finally had the header.  Needless to say, I am so happy with how the new blog turned out!

I am so happy and excited to be launching the new home of A Mama’s Blog, that I am giving away this best selling infant/toddler T-shirt from my store, Little Pumpkin Sweet Pea Designs:

    what-happens-at-grandmas-copy1.jpg

It says, What Happens at Grandma’s Stays at Grandma’s.  The shirt is white (as pictured) and it is infant/toddler size 18 months.  You can view all the specifics of the shirt, see a size chart, and see it in greater detail here, at my store.

To win, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post.  If you have a blog, I’d really appreciate it, if you would mention and link this contest, and my new site in a post on your blog.  Please sign Mr. Linky if you do link.  I will pick a winner through random.org on Saturday March 22nd, at 10pm eastern time.  I will announce the winner either Saturday night, or on Sunday March 23rd.   So make sure you leave your post before then,  if you want a chance to win this adorable shirt.

Even if you don’t have a child in size 18 months, it would make a great gift for your niece, nephew, grandchild, best friend’s baby…you get the drift.  Since this shirt is unisex, it is so cute for either a boy or a girl!

Thanks for stopping by the new site.  Don’t forget to check back to see who the T-shirt winner is.

Coupon for Little Pumpkin Sweet Pea Designs Store

    November 27, 2007

I haven’t mentioned my on-line store, Little Pumpkin Sweet Pea Designs,  very often in my blog, even though I have a few links to it.  When I checked my e-mail for the store today, I discovered the following special coupon from Cafe Press (who hosts the site), and thought I would share this special.   If you think you might do some shopping here, hurry though, because it looks like the coupon code (FRFAM2007) is valid only until the 28th.  I also have a feeling this code will work on other stores at Cafe Press, so that may be worth a try if you find other things you like as well in a different store.

Little Pumpkin Sweet Pea Designs carries designs for babies, children, maternity, and women.   (The onesie in the picture below which says, “My Grandpa Can Fix Anything,”is one of my designs you’ll find in the store.  There are also some breastfeeding advocacy designs and bumper stickers, birth and home birth designs, and some “Green” designs.  Check out the site, and pick up a cute onesie for that special baby in your life- remember Christmas is right around the corner.  :-)
